How to measure your laptop before choosing a case or bag by Franco Boydell

If you’re like us, you carry your laptop around most of the time – fortunately newer devices have become slimmer, lighter and all the while more powerful. So, when you’re choosing how to carry your laptop, it’s important to have a bag or case that both fits your device and allows you to carry the correct number of belongings.

Most Knomo bags and laptop cases have been designed to fit standard sizes of laptop: 12”, 13”, 14” and 15” devices. The tips below will help you choose the best size to go for.

The inch-size describes the screen’s edge to edge diagonal measurement. This size does not include the ‘bezel’ (the casing that surrounds the screen itself) which can often add an additional inch onto the size.

So, it’s always best to measure the width and height of the laptop with a tape measure or ruler, to then find a bag with a similarly sized laptop section. Watch our how-to guide video below to find out more.

How to choose a laptop sleeve

Laptop sleeves are great for carrying by themselves or within larger bags. They offer a great way to add a layer of protection between your precious laptop and the outside world, and if you’re working on the move, they offer a perfectly flat surface to rest your device on.

As such, it’s important that your sleeve is ‘snug’ or a close fit around your laptop – to hold the device in place and best protect it. When you’re choosing a laptop case, always measure your device first before selecting a sleeve the closest dimensions.

At Knomo we do two key styles of laptop sleeve:

The ‘Barbican’ style sleeves are crafted from eco-friendly, full-grain leather. The leather is produced using 100% recycled water and has a rich, soft finish.
